LEED Silver Certification for The Sports Authority

As of April 4, 2013, SGA is pleased to announce the achievement of LEED Silver Certification for The Sports Authority location in Hollywood, FL. The Sports Authority utilized the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Retail Commercial Interiors 2009 rating system for third-party independent verification. Sustainable design highlights of this retail store include: daylight harvesting for over 90% of spaces achieved through the use of skylights and lighting controls; heat island effect reduction of both the roof and hardscape; reduced water consumption; low-emitting paints, coatings, adhesives and sealants used in the building interior; individual task lighting and thermal comfort controls to promote productivity, comfort and well-being of their employees; optimal energy performance for lighting and HVAC systems; and over 90% of eligible equipment and appliances are ENERGY STAR qualified. SGA is proud to have provided architectural design services as well as LEED consulting and LEED Online project administration services for this location, and is committed to working with all of our clients to reduce their operational costs, minimize environmental impacts and optimize the performance of their buildings.

This year SGA Design Group will be honored by the EPA for our most recent “Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR” project, a Kohl’s Department Store located in Michigan City, IN. This project is a participant in the 2013 Race to Denver ENERGY STAR Challenge and will be displayed in the ENERGY STAR gallery exhibit among our peers at the annual AIA 2013 National Convention in Denver, CO. This designation is awarded for building designs with an estimated energy performance that meets ENERGY STAR criteria. Designing commercial building projects to achieve the ENERGY STAR helps building owners save money, save energy, prevent carbon emissions and answer EPA’s call to fight global warming. SGA has been recognized as a leader in energy-efficient design by displaying “Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR” on the awarded projects’ drawings and materials. Our clients will be better positioned to operate their buildings and earn the ENERGY STAR label for achieving performance goals.

Getaway for wounded veterans planned at Skiatook Lake

Architect Daryl Bray never had heard of the Folds of Honor Foundation.

But a couple of months ago, he leaped at the chance to further its cause.

Bray volunteered to design the group’s “Honor Cottage,” a year-round retreat for wounded veterans and their families at CrossTimbers at Skiatook Lake.

What the IgCC means to today’s retailers

In June 2009, the International Code Council (ICC) launched the International Green Construction Code (IgCC), which was developed to answer the need of building safety professionals for a code written in mandatory language addressing green construction for new and existing buildings.
